What is a Book Lover Account?
  • A Book Lover Account is a book credit account in your name to record the books that you have
    donated to The Book Attic to share the joy that you had in reading them with other book lovers
    and to record the books you purchase at The Book Attic.  Your account information is stored in
    a computerized book credit system like a bank account.  

    The Book Attic issues no coupon, plastic or paper membership card as we wish to use less
    plastic, not to waste resources and maintain a green life style as often as possible.

How does this book credit system work?
  • Because of the high property rent The Book Attic can’t afford to offering cash when accepting
    books but credit.  Either 2, 5 or 10 points are added into your account depends on the book's
    future selling price.  Even your books are not sold, you can use the credit in your book lover
    account.
  • Following formula are used when deducting credit in your book lover account.
  • If a title is $36 or above, the programme deducts 10 points from your account, and the
    balance of $26 is paid in cash for rent contribution
  • If it is below $36, the deduction is 5 points, so a $30 book is $25 in cash.
  • If it is below $26, the deduction is 2 points, so a $25 book is $23 in cash.
  • If a title is below $16, no credit is added to credit account, thus no deduction is made.
  • If an account is non-active for 24 months, the programme sets the credit balance to zero.

What are the benefits of having a Book Lover Account at The Book Attic?
  • Book Lovers can enjoy reading quality bargain books at deeply reduced prices.
  • While reading your favourite books from The Book Attic, you are also actively helping our
    environment by using less wood resources.  
  • Some local students who love to read cannot afford to buy expensive new books at the major
    book stores.  Your support of The Book Attic can help these students greatly!

What happen to the books that The Book Attic does not accept?
  • The Book Attic donates the books that it does not accept to charity.

Do I have to pay a membership fee or joining fee in order to have a Book Lover Account?
  • No, there is no membership or joining fees.  Application is in here.

Will the credit balance in my Book Lover Account expire?
  • Yes, if your Book Lover Account is non-active for 24 months, the credit balance in it will expire
    and become zero.

Can I terminate my Book Lover Account with credit in it?
  • Yes, of course you can terminate your Book Lover Account at any time you desire.  
  • A credit note valued at 50% of the credit balance in your Book Lover Account will be issued in
    your name or the name of someone you nominate to use within one year after your account
    closing date.

Does The Book Attic accept all kinds of books?
  • The Book Attic accepts most kinds of books in good condition.
  • Books in the following categories will be donated to charity:
  • Books in poor condition
  • Books smelling of cigarette smoke
  • Computer / Internet books
  • Magazines
  • Study aids and text books
  • When we have triplicate titles in stock

Can I buy books at The Book Attic if I do not have a Book Lover Account?
  • Of course you are welcome to buy books at The Book Attic.  We need your support to keep the
    attic running.  Your contribution is always highly appreciated.

Can I keep the books I've purchase at The Book Attic?
  • Of course you can, they are your books.  But if you do not want to keep them in the future, you
    are always welcome to bring them back to the attic for sharing with other book lovers.
